Home   1. PRINCIPLES OF INFECTION CONTROL

The first section in this module covers the Principles of Infection Control. Infection control will “… prevent pathogens reaching a susceptible site in sufficient numbers to cause an infection” - and we explore the ways it can help achieve this objective.

We do this by looking at types of pathogen, how they spread and the diseases they cause. We take an overview of the different methods of cleaning and disinfection to help minimise risk, and we round off the secction with a look at surveillance and monitoring.

Test your knowledge with the eight multi-choice questions at the end of the section. Remember, these are not marked - they are just for you to use as a means of testing and retaining knowledge.
